Global Mental Health in Asia Symposium 2025

Dr. Sivayokan, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Deneshan Peranantharajah, Lecturer (Probationary),  Department of Physiology, and Ms. Sabarththiny, Demonstrator, Department of Psychiatry, participated in the Global Mental Health in Asia Symposium 2025, held in Singapore from February 17th to 19th.

At the conference, Dr. Deneshan presented a poster titled “Integration of South Indian Classical Music to Augment Interventions for Autistic Children: An Experimental Model,” exploring the potential of music-based therapies in neurodevelopmental care.

Ms. Sabarththiny showcased her research with a poster titled “ Structured Physical Activity as an Early intervention for Autistic Children in Low-Resource Settings”, that highlights the potential of physical activity as a cost-effective and accessible intervention for children with autism, particularly in resource-limited environments.

The Department of Psychiatry remains committed to contributing to global discussions on mental health and pioneering impactful research that enhances care and support for neurodevelopmental disorders. It was an honor for our faculty members to contribute to this vital conversation at GMIN Asia, where global experts and practitioners came together to share insights and foster innovation in mental health interventions.
