Promoting Organic Pesticide and Compost Production among School Students in the Nallur MOH Educational Division

The aim of this activity was to educate students on the value of using organic pesticides and fertilizers. Grade 7 students in the Nallur MOH educational division were selected as the target group.

Medical students facilitated a drama with Grade 7 students to create awareness about the use of organic pesticides, compost production and the health hazards of chemical pesticides. This was followed by a session conducted by the Agriculture Department for the students and teachers. Students provided plants, organic compost, pesticides and leaflets to the students. Finally, students supervised the school students regarding organic gardening at school. Group members evaluated the effectiveness of the programme by distributing a questionnaire to assess the knowledge of students and teachers.
