The Welfare Society of the Faculty of Medicine was recently established with the primary objective of promoting the wellbeing and welfare of both academic and non-academic staff members of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.
As part of its inaugural initiative, the Society successfully organized a souvenir sales stall and a fresh fruit juice bar during the Convocation period, commencing on 19th February 2026. This marked the first fundraising activity undertaken by the Society, aimed at generating funds for the benefit and welfare of the staff.
This initiative served not only as a fundraising effort but also as a valuable learning experience. Being the Society’s first practical venture, it provided important insights into planning, coordination, teamwork, financial management, and operational logistics. The experience gained through this event will undoubtedly guide the Society in strengthening and expanding similar activities in the future, elevating them to a more organized and impactful level.
The success of this programme was made possible through the strong support and encouragement extended by the Faculty administration and the University authorities. Their cooperation and guidance were instrumental in ensuring the smooth conduct of the activities throughout the Convocation period.
It is especially noteworthy that many non-academic staff members actively participated in the operation of the fruit juice bar and souvenir stall. Their dedication, enthusiasm, and sense of ownership greatly contributed to the success of the initiative. Several committee members also played a key role in motivating and mobilizing staff participation, fostering a spirit of unity, collaboration, and collective responsibility.
The Welfare Society sincerely appreciates and acknowledges the genuine commitment, hard work, and teamwork demonstrated by all those involved. This collective effort reflects the strong sense of community within the Faculty and sets a positive foundation for future welfare-oriented initiatives.
The Society looks forward to organizing more innovative and sustainable programmes in the coming years, with the continued support of the staff and administration, to further enhance the welfare and solidarity of the Faculty community.
The second day of the programme, held on 20.02.2026, continued with great enthusiasm and commitment. The activities at the souvenir stall and fresh fruit juice bar were carried out smoothly, with increased coordination and confidence compared to the first day.
Notably, several non-academic staff members made remarkable contributions by dedicating additional time, energy, and effort to ensure the success of the initiative. Their active involvement, teamwork, and willingness to take responsibility significantly strengthened the overall operation of the programme.
The Welfare Society deeply appreciates their exceptional commitment and recognizes their valuable role in making the second day of the event even more successful and impactful.
