Green Jaffna Project Launched: A Visionary Leap Toward A Greener, Healthier North
BUILDING A GREENER FUTURE FOR THE NORTHERN REGION
The Green Jaffna Project was launched on 2nd May 2026 in Kokuvil, Jaffna.
The event took place along Aadiyapatham road in front of the Faculty of Medicine.
It was organized by the Jaffna Medical Association, Students’ Wellbeing Center in faculty of Medicine(University of Jaffna) And Nallur Pradeshiya Sabha.

EVENT OVERVIEW PROJECT INAUGURATION
The inauguration marked an important step toward environmental sustainability and urban health.
It is part of the Jaffna Healthy city initiative.
Medical Students, Academia, Local Authorities and community members actively participated.
The project AIMS to promote a greener environment and healthier living conditions.

THE FOUR PILLARS MAIN FOCUS AREAS
Urban greening beautification: planting trees along roadsides to reduce heat and improve the environment.
Institutional Greening : Encouraging schools and public institutions to adopt green practices.
Social spaces: Creating Greener areas for community wellbeing
Water Conservation & Biodiversity: Developing mini-forests and ponds to support groundwater and ecosystems.
VISION & IMPACT FUTURE GOALS
The project begins in Kokuvil with plans to expand across Jaffna and the Northern Province.
Long-term goal is to become a national model.
Emphasizes that a healthy city starts with a green environment.
Aims to benefit future generations through collective effort.
