The objective of this field health activity was to implement a first aid training program for school students, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to respond effectively to medical emergencies and promote a safer school environment.
First, students had a discussion with the nursing staff at Teaching hospital, Jaffna to plan the programme. This was followed by another session with the nurses during which they demonstrated first aid techniques such as CPR, positioning, etc. to the students.
Then four schools in the Nallur Division were selected to implement the programme, including J/ Kokuvil Hindu College, J/Kanagarathnam Maha Vidyalaya, J/Hindu College, J/Hindu Ladies’ College. Students used leaflets and PowerPoint presentations to explain first aid techniques. Then the students demonstrated the first aid procedures with the help of manikins at the selected schools.
