Services & Benefits

WSFoM provides a wide range of welfare services and benefits to its members, including:

• Funeral Donations: Financial assistance for funerals of members, their spouses, children, or parents
• Marriage Gifts: Cash gifts or gift parcels for legally registered marriages
• Illness Support: Financial subsidies for medical expenses, based on the severity of illness
• Parting Gifts: Monetary gifts upon retirement, determined by years of contribution
• Annual Events: Staff tours and social gatherings to enhance morale and camaraderie
• Transport Support: Assistance with transportation arrangements for weddings and funerals
• Future Benefits: Introduction of a member loan system supported through a fixed deposit scheme

Loans

• The Welfare Society of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, shall refrain from utilizing its funds to provide loans to its members.

Marriage

• The Society shall actively participate in marriage ceremonies if members extend formal invitations.
• Only legally registered marriages will be acknowledged.
• Recognition is accorded to only one (1) marriage.
• Invitations to the Chairman should be received at least two (2) weeks before the event.
• The society will pay fuel costs if the university provides transportation facilities. If not, the society will cover the entire expense of transportation, which will be arranged by the Executive Committee for any members who choose to attend.
• The Society shall make a cash donation of Rs.10,000.00 or present a gift parcel valued at not less than Rs. 10,000.00 on behalf of the Society.

Bereavement

• Funerals concerning the Society include those of an employee, legitimate spouse, children, and mother/father.
• The names of these relatives must be recorded on the Personal Record Forms completed by each staff member upon appointment.
• The society will pay fuel costs if the university provides transportation facilities. If not, the society will arrange and bear the cost of transportation to the funeral.

Various funeral donations made by the Society include:

1. Employee – Rs.20,000.00
2. Legitimate Spouse – Rs.15,000.00
3.  Child – Rs.15,000.00
4. Father/Mother – Rs.10,000.00

In all instances, a Death Certificate must be submitted to the Executive Committee for verification before any payment is processed.

The Executive Committee, in consultation with the surviving spouse, shall determine the manner in which the donation is presented to the bereaved family.

The Welfare Society of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna shall assess the severity of each case of ill-health and determine appropriate benefits.

Staff members facing varying degrees of severity in their health conditions shall receive the amount of the subsidy which will range from 15,000.00 to Rs. 25,000.00, depending on the severity of the illness.

For severe illnesses or accidents resulting in the incapacitation of staff, a fixed amount of Rs. 10,000.00 shall be disbursed by the society to support the affected staff member during their period of incapacitation.

Upon retirement after a dedicated period of service, a staff member shall be presented with a parting gift. The gift amount shall be Rs. 300.00 multiplied by the number of years the staff member has contributed to the Welfare Society Fund.

This provision, however, will not apply in cases where a member of staff has been dismissed or has resigned without providing proper notice.
