A Shramadana programme was successfully held on 10th January 2026 at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna. The programme was organized with the support and active involvement of the Student Wellbeing Centre, Medical Students’ Union, students of the 48th batch, and the coordinator of Center for digital epidemiology.
The main objective of the Shramadana was to promote environmental sustainability, cleanliness, and teamwork among students while improving the faculty environment.
During the programme, students actively participated in various outdoor and indoor activities. Outdoors, students cut extra tree limbs, cleaned fallen leaves, and collected small tree branches. These materials were used to support the growth of mango trees in the Mango Garden, contributing to eco-friendly practices.
Indoors, students cleaned the Eco-Friendly Room, Well-Being Center, Homies Room, and the Seminar Hall. Activities included dusting ceiling fans, cleaning furniture, and arranging books in the Eco-Friendly Room, ensuring a clean and organized learning environment.
The Coordinator of the Well-Being Center generously provided funds for short eats, masks, and gloves, ensuring the safety and well-being of the participants. In addition, lunch was provided by the Coordinator of CODE, which greatly supported and motivated the students throughout the programme.
The Shramadana was carried out successfully with active participation and cooperation from all involved. It not only enhanced the cleanliness and greenery of the faculty but also strengthened students’ sense of responsibility, unity, and environmental awareness.
Overall, the Shramadana programme was a meaningful and successful initiative that demonstrated the commitment of FOM students and coordinators toward a clean, healthy, and sustainable university environment.
