Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology is one of the five clinical departments of the Phase three of the medical course at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.
The department is involved in comprehensive undergraduate training during the final year, leading to MBBS degree. In addition to the undergraduate teaching and training the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology is an accredited center for postgraduate training leading to MD in Obstetrics & Gynaecology awarded by the PGIM.
It is also a leading center in providing patient services in terms of managing high risk pregnancies, cancer screening and subfertility through Teaching Hospital – Jaffna.
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology has been a center of excellence in research and publications with a consistent quality output.
Two years after the establishment of the faculty in 1978, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology was founded by Professor. M. Sivasuriya and currently staffed with a Professor and three Senior Lectures, all of whom are board certified specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
The department has onsite andrology laboratory, colposcopy facility with other amenities for research.
