NIHR Global Health Research Group on Violence Against Women and Violence Against Girls: University of Birmingham/University of Cape Town in partnership with the Lancet Commission
The NIHR Global Health Research Group on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) is an international research and collaboration initiative focused on strengthening evidence and action to prevent and respond to violence affecting women and girls. Led by the University of Birmingham and the University of Cape Town, in partnership with the Lancet Commission and academic and public health institutions across low- and middle-income countries, the project addresses violence as a critical public health, social, and human rights issue.
The project aims to generate high-quality, context-sensitive research that informs effective prevention strategies, strengthens systems and services, and supports survivor-centred responses. Through close engagement with policymakers, practitioners, civil society, and communities, the initiative contributes to improved policies and practices, increased awareness and accountability, and coordinated national action, ultimately supporting safer communities, gender equality, and long-term social well-being for women and girls.
