About WSFoM

PREAMBLE

Whereas the academic, administrative, non-academic and academic support staff of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, have deemed it necessary to establish a Welfare Society to promote and enhance the welfare of its members. The members of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, do hereby adopt and endorse this Constitution for the governance of the “WELFARE SOCIETY OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF JAFFNA (WSFoM).”

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The aims and objectives of WSFoM are:

  1. To contribute to the overall development and well-being of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.
  2. To generate the fund for the development of the WSFoM and the faculty/university.
  3. To develop the business plan to improve the WSFoM and the faculty.
  4. To promote a positive and conducive work environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  5. To support and facilitate initiatives that promote the academic and professional growth of the faculty members.
  6. To help and support to members in situations such as bereavement, marriage, outdooring, illness, hospitalization, departure, or retirement.
  7. To foster solidarity and cooperation among members of the academic, administrative, non-academic and academic support staff.
  8. To collaborate with the faculty administration in identifying and addressing the specific needs and challenges faced by the academic, administrative, non-academic and academic support staff.
  9. To establish programs and projects that enhance the academic environment, research capabilities, and teaching resources within the faculty.
  10. To actively participate in activities that contribute to the academic reputation and excellence of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.
  11. To engage in community outreach and service projects that reflect the social responsibility of the faculty and its staff.
  12. To collaborate with external stakeholders, including alumni, government bodies, and industry partners, for the advancement of the faculty.
  13. To ensure that the welfare initiatives align with the broader goals and strategic plans of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.
  14. To facilitate professional development opportunities, training, and workshops for the staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  15. To establish a platform for open communication and dialogue between the staff and the faculty administration for the continuous improvement of working conditions and academic standards.
  16. To undertake any other initiative or project that contributes to the academic, professional, and personal development of the members and the overall progress of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.
  17. To organize an annual tour and get-together celebration in order to enhance the general well-being and morale of faculty and staff and to promote a healthy work environment.

GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE

WSFoM shall be governed by a twelve-member Executive Committee, including the followings:

    1. Patron
    2. Chairman
    3. Vice-Chairman
    4. General Secretary
    5. Assistant General Secretary
    6. Treasurer
    7. Chairperson or nominee of the Human Resources Development Committee of the FoM.
    8. Total of five members from the committee mentioned in 8.1.

Decisions of the Executive Committee shall be made by a simple majority.
An Executive Committee member who undergoes posting, transfer, resignation, retirement, incapacity, or death shall cease to be a member of WSFoM.
