Introductory session on the implementation of the Zero Plastic

Under the initiative of the Jaffna Healthy City project, a comprehensive introductory session on the implementation of the Zero Plastic Initiative was conducted at the Professorial Unit of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ward No. 21, Teaching Hospital Jaffna, on January 17, 2025. The session was graced by the presence of Dr. P. A. D. Coonghe, Head of the Department of Community and Family Medicine, University of Jaffna, who provided an insightful overview of the Healthy City project. Dr. Sathiyamoorthy, Director of Teaching Hospital Jaffna, and Dr. Gurubaran, Honorary Consultant, also delivered addresses highlighting the importance of sustainable practices within healthcare settings.
 
During the session, key action points were discussed, including the placement of educational materials in the ward to raise awareness about plastic reduction, encouraging the use of alternatives to single-use plastics, and replacing visible plastic items with sustainable options. This initiative marks a significant step toward fostering a healthier, more sustainable environment within healthcare facilities in Jaffna, demonstrating a collaborative commitment to a zero-plastic future.
