
We are delighted to announce that Jaffna has been recognized as an “Affiliated Healthy City” by the World Health Organization South-East Asia Region (WHO SEARO) through the prestigious Healthy City Award 2024.
The award was presented to Governor Hon. Nagalingam Vethanayahan by UN Resident Coordinator Marc-André Franche, acknowledging Jaffna’s commitment to fostering a healthier and more sustainable community.
Joining the Governor in receiving this honor were Prof. R. Surenthirakumaran, Dean and Professor in Community Medicine, Dr. P. A. D. Coonghe, Head and Senior Lecturer in Community and Family Medicine, University of Jaffna and Mr.S.Krishnenthiran, Commissioner, Municipal Council, Jaffna.
As an Affiliated Healthy City, Jaffna remains committed to advancing its public health initiatives and working towards achieving full WHO Healthy City Certification. This milestone reflects the dedication and collective efforts of the Jaffna Healthy City initiative to promote health and well-being for all.
