The Welfare Society of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, recently commenced its activities with a successful fundraising initiative held during the Convocation period beginning on 19th February 2026.
Established with the primary objective of promoting the wellbeing and welfare of both academic and non-academic staff members, the Society organized a souvenir sales stall and a fresh fruit juice bar as its inaugural fundraising programme. This marked the first practical venture of the newly formed Society and a significant milestone in its journey.
The programme continued on 20th February 2026 with increased enthusiasm and improved coordination. Compared to the first day, operations at both the souvenir stall and fruit juice bar were conducted with greater confidence and teamwork, reflecting the dedication and growing experience of the organizing members.
A particularly noteworthy aspect of the initiative was the remarkable contribution of the non-academic staff. Many members devoted additional time, energy, and effort to ensure the smooth functioning of the activities. Their active involvement, strong teamwork, and willingness to take responsibility greatly strengthened the overall success of the programme. Committee members also played a vital role in motivating and mobilizing staff participation, fostering unity and collective responsibility within the Faculty.
Beyond fundraising, the initiative served as a valuable learning experience for the Society. As its first hands-on venture, the event provided important insights into planning, coordination, financial management, teamwork, and operational logistics. The experience gained will undoubtedly guide the Society in organizing future programmes in a more structured and impactful manner.
The success of the programme was made possible through the strong support and encouragement extended by the Faculty administration and University authorities. Their guidance and cooperation were instrumental in ensuring the smooth conduct of activities throughout the Convocation period.
The Welfare Society sincerely appreciates the genuine commitment, hard work, and collaboration demonstrated by all those involved. This collective effort reflects the strong sense of community within the Faculty of Medicine and lays a positive foundation for future welfare-oriented initiatives.
The Society looks forward to organizing more innovative and sustainable programmes in the coming years, with continued support from staff and administration, to further enhance the welfare, solidarity, and unity of the Faculty community.
