The University Surgical Unit, Teaching Hospital, Jaffna, is pleased to acknowledge a generous donation that will significantly enhance patient care within our surgical wards.
Today, S Mathusoothanan, a dedicated businessman from Jaffna, donated two portable patient monitors and one high-specification bedside monitor to the University Surgical Unit. This meaningful contribution reflects his annual commitment to giving back to the community and supporting the advancement of healthcare services in the region.
The donation was coordinated by Dr. P.Sivamayuran, Honorary Consultant General Surgeon of the University Surgical Unit, whose efforts facilitated this valuable partnership between the hospital and the community.
These monitors will be installed in Wards 23A and 29, where they will play a vital role in the management of acute surgical patients. Continuous and accurate monitoring of vital parameters such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate is essential for early detection of complications and timely intervention.
The newly donated equipment will:
Enhance real-time monitoring of critically ill and post-operative patients
Improve patient safety and clinical responsiveness
Support medical and nursing staff in delivering evidence-based, high-quality care
This generous act of philanthropy demonstrates how community partnership can directly strengthen healthcare services and improve patient outcomes.
The University Surgical Unit sincerely appreciates Mr. Mathusoothan’s continued support and commitment to advancing surgical care in Jaffna.
