The Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, invites submissions for the prestigious Dr M. Ganesaratnam Memorial Oration 2026. This oration recognizes outstanding academic contributions in Surgery and provides a platform to showcase impactful work relevant to Sri Lanka.
Submissions must present original work conducted by the applicant, either independently or collaboratively, on a topic related to Surgery with clear relevance to Sri Lanka. The work must not have been previously presented in any form such as an oration, keynote address, invited lecture, or presidential address. Manuscripts should be written for a medical audience and must emphasize innovation, policy implications, or service development, clearly demonstrating the applicant’s personal academic contribution rather than being purely review-based.
Applicants are required to submit five printed copies of the manuscript. The manuscript must be anonymous and should not contain the name or affiliations of the author. It should be printed in single-column format on one side of the paper only, and a loose plastic binding is preferred by the University of Jaffna.
A separate covering letter must accompany the submission, including the name of the applicant, institutional affiliations, postal address, title of the manuscript, and a contact telephone number. This information should not appear within the manuscript itself.
Manuscripts must be prepared using Times New Roman font, size 12, with 2.5 cm margins on all sides and 1.5 line spacing. Bold and italic text may be used for emphasis where appropriate, but underlining should be avoided. All pages must be numbered consecutively, with page numbers placed at the bottom center or bottom right-hand corner.
The manuscript should be written exactly as it would be delivered if selected, adopting a cohesive and engaging narrative style rather than a rigid research paper format. The core content should integrate the applicant’s research into a unified presentation. Submissions consisting solely of a collection of research papers without such integration will not be considered, although previously published work may be included as annexures.
All submissions will be evaluated based solely on the manuscript provided, and no revisions or resubmissions will be permitted after the deadline. Non-compliance with the guidelines may result in rejection. An independent Committee of the University of Jaffna will assess each submission individually and reach a consensus decision, which will then be forwarded to the Council for final approval.
The submission deadline is on or before Friday, 29th May 2026.
Completed submissions should be sent to the Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna. For inquiries or electronic communication, please contact: deanmedicine@univ.jfn.ac.lk.
