A high-level delegation of Government ministers, Members of Parliament, and senior health officials visited the Jaffna Day Surgery Centre (JDSC) on 27th June 2026, commending the Centre’s achievements and pledging continued support for its ongoing development.
The visit brought together senior figures from national and regional government to observe first-hand the work carried out at the Jaffna Day Surgery Centre, a facility established under the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, to expand access to same-day surgical care in the Northern Province.
During the visit, the Minister of Health and Mass Media expressed appreciation for the successful establishment of the Jaffna Day Surgery Centre, recognising it as a significant step forward in strengthening surgical healthcare services in the region. The Minister acknowledged the vision behind the Centre and its role in reducing the burden on larger hospitals by offering efficient, same-day surgical procedures closer to the communities that need them.
The Minister went on to specially commend the dedication and hard work of the entire JDSC team and supporting staff, noting that their commitment had been instrumental in bringing the Centre to its current level of success. He assured the delegation and staff present that the Government would extend all necessary support toward the next phase of the Centre’s development, reaffirming its importance to the broader healthcare landscape of the Northern Province.
Following the ministerial visit, the Secretary of the Hospital Management Committee met with the JDSC team the next day and reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to providing continuous support to the Centre. He further stated that the necessary administrative processes would be expedited, with a firm commitment to complete the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as soon as possible, paving the way for the next stage of institutional collaboration.
