In-Depth Interviews with Survivors Conducted in Kalutara

The Western Province research team has conducted in-depth interviews with survivors as part of Work Package 1 (WP1) of the Global NIHR Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) project.

On 21 October 2026, the team conducted an in-depth interview at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. It was arranged with the support of Ms. Swarna De Silva, Women’s Development Officer, Ministry of Child Development and Women’s Affairs, Kalutara.

On 27 October 2026, the research team visited Teaching Hospital Kalutara and conducted in-depth interviews with four survivors at Mithuru Piyasa. The team comprised Prof. Shreenika De Silva Weliange, Dr. Dushyanthi  , Ms. K. K. Kamshana, Ms. B. Pavatharani, Ms. Sethli   and Ms. Asani Irushika.

These interviews offered valuable insights into survivors’ perspectives and lived experiences. They contribute to the project’s ongoing work to generate evidence and deepen understanding of the issues affecting women and girls in Sri Lanka.

We sincerely thank Dr. Nisha Fernando, Medical Officer, Mithuru Piyasa, Teaching Hospital Kalutara, and Ms. Swarna De Silva for facilitating the interviews and supporting the research activities. We also gratefully acknowledge the Mithuru Piyasa staff for their cooperation and practical support, which helped create a safe and supportive environment for the interviews.
