The inauguration ceremony for the certificate course in Family Health was held on April 3, 2025, at the Auditorium, Clinical Training and Research Block, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna. The event was collaboratively organized by the Centre for Digital Epidemiology, Faculty of Medicine and the Centre for Open and Distance Learning, University of Jaffna.
Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, graced the occasion as the chief guest, with significant contributions from key figures, including Prof. R. Surenthirakumaran (Dean, Faculty of Medicine), Prof. J. Robinson (Director, Centre for Open and Distance Learning), Dr. Lalani Pathirana (Medical Officer Incharge/Planning, Department of Health Services, Northern Province), and other prominent academics.
Welcome address was delivered by Dr. S. Kumaran, Coordinator for Clinical Research and Operations, Centre for Digital Epidemiology. Talks from Prof. M.G. Sathiadas (Head, Department of Paediatrics) and Dr. S. Raguraman (Senior Lecturer, Department of Obstetrics and gynecology) highlighted the crucial role of community health workers in child nutrition and reproductive health, respectively. Dr.Raguraman mentioned about the contribution of Jaffna Medical Faculty Overseas Alumni, Canada while initiating this certificate course.
A drama performance addressing the challenges of long-term conditions was presented, followed by speeches from Prof. Surenthirakumaran, Prof. Robinson, and the chief guest, Prof. Srisatkunarajah.
