University of Jaffna’s Step towards collaboration with Amrita University, India

The Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, organized a discussion with the delegation from Amrita University, Coimbatore, India, on 8th September 2026, marking a significant step toward institutional collaboration between the two universities.

The discussion was led by Dr. Pratheek Sudhakaran, Head of the Amrita School of Architecture, who met with academics from the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Siddha Medicine, and the Research Team of Centre for Digital Epidemiology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna. Discussion was held at the Board Room of the Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Pratheek shared the overview of Amrita University’s extensive academic and humanitarian work, including its healthcare initiatives, disaster relief efforts, rural development programs, and strong global research rankings.

The discussions identified several potential areas for collaboration, spanning health research including antimicrobial resistance, oncology, diabetes, snakebite research, and molecular diagnostics as well as education, through dual-degree programs, student exchanges, and joint publications. Talks also touched on environmental initiatives such as landscape architecture and water conservation, and wellbeing programs inspired by Amrita’s yoga and meditation practices.

Both universities have agreed to continue discussions through online multidisciplinary meetings, with plans to jointly host conferences and finalize a formal Memorandum of Understanding in the coming weeks.
