Opening ceremony of the Women health initiative Centre and Inauguration of Community health care workers facilitated fertility care project was held on 16th of July 2023 in the University Family Health Centre, Kondavil. The programme was initiated with the ceremonial opening of the Women Health Initiative Centre by the chief guest Dr A.Ketheeswaran, Regional Director of Health Services, Jaffna, accompanied by Prof.R.Surenthirakumaran, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, Dr Thilak Rajendra, Divisional Medical Officer, Divisional Hospital Kondavil, Dr S.Raguraman, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist and Dr B.Balagobi, Consultant Urology Surgeon. Further, the presence of Consultants, Doctors, staff and Heads of various health sectors, members of various Community organizations, trained volunteers, medical students and the public not only added more value to this event but also played a significant role in ensuring the concepts of this event reach throughout the community.
The latter part of the programme was conducted in the Conference Hall, Nallur MOH. Dr A.Ketheeswaran, Regional Director of Health Services, Jaffna, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The chief and special guests lit the oil lamp, an integral part of our culture. It was followed by a welcome address delivered by Ms.K.Praveena, the project coordinator.
The community health care workers (CHCW) facilitated fertility care project’s introduction was given by Dr.S.Raguraman and Dr .S. Kumaran. Dr S.Raguraman described the clinical experience in fertility care and its reflection on finding a solution through the evidence-based approach. Further, he said the ongoing epidemiological research among sub-fertile couples was shown as a burden during the study by the real-time analysis and significantly impacted initiating this project during the study period rather than at the end of the study. Also, he elaborated on the proposed fertility care model to his multidisciplinary team. Dr S. Kumaran, Consultant, Family Medicine, had joined via Zoom. He started with an appreciation of the innovative concept and further described the gaps in the proposed model. He scientifically elaborates on how to overcome these issues with the help of the CHCW. He mentioned the different stages of care available for subfertility and how to solve the health issues in primary and secondary care. Also, he mentioned the importance of research and literature review in the medical field.
