In collaboration with Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, faculty of medicine, University of Jaffna, Jaffna Medical Association organized a pre congress workshop, was held under the theme of “Blurring the borders of Gynaecological malignancies” took place on August 14, 2023, at medical students’ Hostel Auditorium, Jaffna.
The workshop was attended by the consultants from various academic fields, post graduate trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Senior House Officers, Medical Officers, House Officers, Nursing Officers, Mid wives who are working in Obstetrics and Gynaecology ward, medical students, and various health related staffs. Audience is not only from Teaching Hospital Jaffna, but also from various hospitals and MOH area in Jaffna added more value to the session.
The session was commenced with a warm and hearty welcome address by Dr.Chrishanthi Rajasooriyar, President of JMA, Consultant Oncologist, Teaching Hospital Jaffna.
As a first speaker of the session, Prof.K.Muhunthan, Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, gave a deep insight into “Screening of Gynaecological malignancies” where he revealed some interesting facts on his topic.
Followed by Dr.M.Thanuya, Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist, Teaching hospital Jaffna gave excellent coverage to “ Update on Management of Gynaecological malignancies”.
After that a hands-on session in Cervical cancer screening was guided by Dr.M.Thanuya who exquisitely demonstrated proper method of taking sample for Pap smear where the target audience actively participated and performed the procedures. Thereafter, again Dr.M.Thanuya continued her topic on “Update on Management of Gynaecological malignancies” which imparted a comprehensive idea regarding present-day management of Gynaecological malignancies.
As a final speaker, Dr.S.Raguraman, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna shared his extensive knowledge on “Fertility preservation in patients with malignancies” which gave a clear view of contemporary practices in fertility preservation.
Finally, the Certificates of Appreciation were presented by Dr.G.Bavani, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Teaching Hospital Jaffna and Dr.S.Premakrishna, Consultant anesthetist, Teaching Hospital Jaffna to honour the speakers of the session who made this session highly informative and intriguing.
Lastly, the Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr.S.Raguraman, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna. And so, the session was concluded with a grand success.
