Training of Trainers Program in First Aid

The Department of Community and Family Medicine, University of Jaffna and Emergency Physicians of Teaching Hospital Jaffna organized full time four days Training of trainers program between 2nd and 5th of May 2024 in collaboration with Health Essentials International (H.E.I.), Germany. Mr Muresh Thevarasa was the resource person from H.E.I. Twenty teachers from Jaffna Education Zone of subjects of Science, Physical Education participated.

Practical sessions on first Aid for Asthma, Burns, Seizures, stroke, Heart Attack, Severe bleeding, Heat stroke, Sun stroke, Foreign object in airway, choking, Hyperventilation, Fractures, Methods of recovery position, Rescue breathing, Helmet removal, CPR training were carried out in our Department between 8.30 to 4.30 p.m. At the final day they have been sat for theory, practical and oral examination.

As the output of this training, the teachers were prepared to be able to mobilize to 3-4 schools for training the students on first aid, and attend regular training sessions for next two (2) years to be awarded with official First Aid Certificates.

As the continuation of training four days (7 th to 10 th of May 2024) training to students also carried out.

Twenty students of Grade 9,10, 11 and 12 per each schools namely J/ Hindu Ladies Girls’ College, J/Central College, J/ Puttur Somaskanda School, and J/Kokuvil Hindu College participated this workshop.

Training were carried out in our Department between 8.30 to 4.30 p.m. based on the above mentioned titles.

Lunch and Refreshments were provided due training.

The feedback from students were collected. They are willing to apply such experience among their collogues in their respective and nearby schools. They mentioned that they gained vast knowledge on First Aid and they are willing to train the students.
