
The Awarding Ceremony of the Certificate Course in Family Health,Batch 01 was held on 14 September 2026 at the Hoover Auditorium, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna. Jointly organised by the Centre for Digital Epidemiology (CoDE) and the Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL), the 870-hour bilingual programme aimed to strengthen knowledge and skillsin family and community health, with a focus on health promotion, nutrition, maternal and child health, reproductive health, elderly care, and community empowerment. Senior Professor T. Velnampy, Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna, graced the ceremony as Chief Guest, and Professor R. Surenthirakumaran, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, as Guest of Honour,along with academic and health-sector representatives, graduates, and their families.
A total of 19 participants completed Batch 01 and received their certificates in recognition of their commitment and achievement. The programme demonstrated strong employment and professional outcomes, with five graduates securing government employment, two joining an IVF clinic, and twelve obtaining positions in research projects. The ceremony also highlighted the valuable contributions of community health workers to child nutrition, reproductive health, and community-based health initiatives. The event concluded with a photography session and fellowship lunch, marking an important milestone in strengthening family and community health capacity in the Northern Province.
