Field Health Programme: PVD Screening & Awareness Campaign

Driven by the rising prevalence of Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) in the Jaffna district, a dedicated 21-member student team successfully conducted a community screening and awareness campaign under the supervision of Dr. Satchithanantham Vinojan (Consultant Vascular and Transplant Surgeon).

Campaign Details:

  • Key Objectives: To screen local populations for PVD risk factors (including hypertension and diabetes), assess modifiable lifestyle risks (obesity, sedentary behavior, alcohol consumption), and educate the community on early symptoms and prevention.
  • Activities Conducted: Participants underwent general health checks (blood pressure and random blood sugar testing) and PVD-specific evaluations using pulse palpation and Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) measurements. The team also delivered educational presentations and provided on-site clinical evaluations by an allocated Medical Officer
