Raising Awareness on First Line Actions in Road Traffic Accidents in Jaffna District.

This Field Health Programme aimed to educate the public in the Northern Province about essential first-line actions to be taken during road traffic accidents (RTAs). The project addressed the critical need for bystander preparedness, as emergency medical services are often delayed, and improper handling of accident victims can lead to preventable complications. The programme included the production of an educational awareness video,

publication of informative articles in the Uthayan newspaper, and an interactive first-aid demonstration for three-wheeler drivers at the Karachchi Pradeshiya Sabha in Kilinochchi. Through these activities, awareness of scene safety, basic first-aid skills, and preventive measures for RTAs were promoted. The programme successfully improved participants’ knowledge and confidence in providing immediate first aid during emergencies. It also enhanced public awareness of road safety practices and the importance of timely medical Care.
