Diabetes Awareness and Screening Initiative for Workplace Employees Nallur Divisional Secretariat Office, Jaffna, Sri Lanka

This field health activity was conducted to address the rising public health concern of type 2 diabetes mellitus among sedentary, office-based occupational groups. Focusing on the workforce at the Nallur Divisional Secretariat, the initiative aimed to bridge gaps in baseline health awareness and encourage early detection of metabolic risk factors. The program was implemented in three core phases: a comprehensive screening station where 68 participants underwent BMI calculations, blood pressure measurements, and random blood glucose testing; an individual counseling session offering personalized lifestyle, dietary, and medical follow-up advice; and a group health education session covering diabetes risk factors, symptoms, and long-term complications. To reinforce learning and evaluate post- program knowledge retention, the activity concluded with an interactive Tamil-language Kahoot quiz competition alongside the distribution of educational leaflets and healthy herbal green porridge refreshments.
