Sensory Haven: Creating a Peace Garden to Promote Sensory- Neural Development in Neurodivergent Children

The field health programme focused on establishing a sensory-friendly Peace Garden at the Neurodevelopment Clinic of Green Memorial Hospital, Manipay. The project was designed to support children with autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions by creating a safe outdoor environment that promotes sensory integration, emotional regulation, social interaction, and overall wellbeing. Activities included site assessment, stakeholder consultations with teachers and caregivers, garden design planning, land preparation, planting fruit trees and sensory plants, conducting a worker-training workshop, and follow-up monitoring visits. The garden incorporated features such as shaded areas, sensory plants, textured pathways, and calming natural elements to provide visual, tactile, auditory, and olfactory stimulation in a therapeutic setting.
